Cryptocurrency owners can now send donations to the nonprofit Tor Project, which promotes the idea of safer and 'free' Internet browsing based on open source software. Specifically, Tor Project promotes freedom as a fundamental right to develop new online anonymity technology.

Now, Tor Project has announced that users will have, in addition to Bitcoin, the possibility of making donations in other 9 cryptocurrencies. This was revealed by Sarah Stevenson, director of fundraising for the organization.

The novelty with respect to the announcement is that donations were previously made through the BitPay platform, which converts payments into cryptocurrencies to fiat currencies, however, donations can now be sent directly to a Tor portfolio that will manage the exchange house. Kraken. In this sense, Stevenson said:

We decided to accept the cryptocurrency because more and more donors requested that option. Project Tor and cryptocurrency communities value privacy, so change makes sense.

According to the Project Tor website, the organization will accept the following cryptocurrencies as of today:

  • Bitcoin
  • Bitcoin Cash
  • Ether
  • Dash
  • Litecoin
  • Monero
  • Stellar Lumens
  • Zcash
  • Tokens REP of the Augur Project.

Stevenson also explained that the organization was focusing on the return of time and effort invested, in addition to the cryptocurrencies that users previously requested to make contributions. The executive said that they will limit the number of separate portfolios they need to manage, accepting the cryptocurrencies that can later be converted through Kraken.

To make donations to the project, users must simply access the Tor Project website through the following link , copy the available portfolio address and transfer the funds. The new donation alternatives came into effect on March 18 and, so far, the comments on the change have been totally positive.
