SEAT Automotive manufacturer partners with Alastris to develop blockchain products

SEAT, an automobile manufacturer in Spain, has partnered with the Alastria consortium in order to work on the development of products based on blockchain technology. This was announced by the iProUp news portal on Wednesday, January 16.

Luca de Meo, president of SEAT, expressed the following through a statement that the union of his company to the Alastria network "opens up new possibilities for the development of services and products with total confidence and security". He added that:

"We are convinced of the importance that Blockchain technology will have in the future, and for this reason we want to start working with it from the beginning."

SEAT is a state company founded in 1950, which has managed to figure as the largest car manufacturer in Spain. According to the information provided in the press release, in 2017 its turnover reached a record of 9,552 million euros, equivalent to US $ 10,878 million, which represented an increase of 11.1 percent compared to the previous year.


For its part, Alastria is a multisectorial and semi-public consortium that is backed by a national network composed of more than 70 companies and establishments, including some well-known companies such as Banco Santander and BBVA, the renowned telecommunications provider Telefónica. Repsol and Accentura energy supplier.

SEAT has partnered with Alastria with the aim of promoting the advancement and development of the blockchain through the creation of new products. SEAT wants to test the benefits of such technology in the finance sector, in order to improve existing processes and optimize them, as well as facilitate the management of the supply chain.

However, SEAT has already started similar projects with Telefónica, this being the case of the development of a proof of concept of a blockchain product that will allow to track the parts of the vehicles according to the supply chain of the company's factory, in Martorell, Spain.
