As reported on January 15, the expected Ethreum bifurcation, Constantinople, was delayed due to a possible vulnerability in its code, however, today it was confirmed that it could be carried out on February 27, specifically in the block. 7280000 of the network.

The fact that the bifurcation was not released on the stipulated date has created several problems for Ethereum. One of these is that a significant group of miners continue to mine as if the bifurcation had actually taken place. Another problem is to define how to proceed with the update aimed at generating lower transaction rates, among other improvements.

These problems were discussed in the last meeting of developers of the blockchain Ethereum, held this Friday. There was discussed a strategy of "two bifurcations" to ensure that the entire network embarks on the next scheduled bifurcation. There was also talk of getting a new name for the bifurcation, but nothing was achieved, since " the name of things was less important than the actual work required ".

Regarding the opinion of Vitalik Buterin, he said that maybe it would be a good idea to achieve the new update as soon as possible due to the next "difficulty bomb". The difficulty bomb will have an effect on the actual blocking times in the Ethereum network, although not necessarily for the users.

" At this time, blocking times have already increased by approximately 9%, " Buterin said, but added that in six weeks, " lock times of up to 20 to 21 seconds would be achieved . If we had to be more aggressive and say something like 3 weeks, then we could avoid a big step like that . "

The meeting concluded that six weeks is an adequate time to correct the code related to EIP-1283.
