The United Nations Children's Fund or Unicef ??will finance six startups focused on blockchain technology.

This organization will invest 100,000 dollars in the six startups to " solve global challenges through blockchain technology ". They were selected through a contest in which they applied more than 100 projects from 50 countries. The companies that won the financing were Atix Labs (Argentina) , Onesmart (Mexico) , Prescrypto (Mexico) , Statwig (India) , Utopixar (Tunisia) and W3 Engineers (Bangladesh). They will have to deliver open source prototypes of blockchain applications within a period of 12 months.

UNICEF's chief innovation advisor, Chris Fabian, explained in a statement that the fund invests in projects " when our funding, technical support and focus on vulnerable populations can help a technology grow and mature in the fairest and most equitable way possible " In addition, he said: " The blockchain technology is still at an early stage, and there is a lot of experimentation, failure and learning ahead as we see how and where we can use this technology to create a better world ."

Unicef ??ensures that these investments are part of the " biggest blockchain explorations" of the institution on the use of smart contracts to achieve organizational efficiencies, the creation of distributed decision-making processes and work to develop knowledge and understanding of Distributed accounting technology.
